The project also offers help and support to those interested in purchasing annuities.

Annuities and pensions are a serious business

Retirement planning is important but many people in the UK bury their head in the sand and do not take pensions seriously, therefore risk losing out financially when they retire.

It is important to take retirement planning and annuities seriously, but many people do not know who to trust and where to turn to for help and advice.

The Project provides a range of free sources for those who are serious about maximising their income in retirement.

Free resources

Many people find retirement confusing, complex and boring. We aim to make the complex simple and to make planning as interesting as possible by providing:

Help, guidance or financial advice

It is difficult to make the right decisions about annuities and pensions without financial advice but many people don’t take the right advice because they think it is too complex or expensive.

One of the project’s core objectives is to make it easier for people to get the right help, guidance or financial advice.

Who is running the project?

The project is run by the well-known and respected financial adviser William Burrows who has written most of the educational material and programmed the annuity and drawdown tools.

William has over 25 years’ hands-on experience of advising clients and has written many acclaimed retirement planning guides including; “Retirement is a journey not an event” and “Retirement advice; an art or an science?”

The inspiration for this project came from the experience of running the "Emergency Financial Advice" project in 2020 when a group of over 50 financial advisers offered help and advice to anybody affected by the Covid 19 pandemic.

What is the catch? - are you just trying to attract new clients?

There is no catch - I am passionate about helping people make the best possible decision at retirement and as a previous pension minister once said to me "we have the scars on our backs from trying to be the customer champion".

For over 25 years I have been providing free information about retirement income and given free access to my calculators and charts as well as answering questions on retirment matters. I am now making this information available through the project to help people make the most of their retirment savings.

What areas of pensions and retirement planning are included in the project?

All aspects of pensions including annuities and pension drawdown as well as other personal finance matters, e.g. investments, wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and equity release, but not debt consolidation.

Is the project regulated and does it give financial advice?

The project itself is only providing information and this is not financial advice in any way whatsoever.

Anybody who wants financial advice will be referred to a regulated financial adviser such as William Burrows of Eadon & Co. go Eadon & Co's website

William Burrows is a financial adviser at Eadon & Co and anybody referred to him for advice will be advised in accordance with the relevant FCA regulations.

I am involved with a workplace pension - how can the project help us?

Workplace pensions can easily direct their employees to the project's website where they can access all of the resources and take advantage of the free 'toe in the water' meeting with an adviser.

No formal appointment is necessary. However, it is possible to set up a bespoke version of the Retirement Toolbox with dedicated material tailored to the specific scheme.

I am a financial adviser - what's in it for me?

Many advisers register and use my website for my annuity rates, calculators and charts and I am glad they find this useful.

A number of advisers ask me to help them and their clients with annuity advice and I am pleased to take client referals on a shared fee basis.

Advisers can also join the project to brush up on their retirement skills and keep up to date with the latest information.

How is the project financed?

In order to keep the project independent and unbiased, the project and website and is funded by William Burrows and there is no external funding or sponsorship.
